Pre-schools accept all children between 3 and 6 years of age. Pre-schools welcome diversity and promote the potential of every child. They are designed to meet a plethora of needs and emotions from each child as he/she experiments with new languages, asks him/herself, peers and adults unexpected and challenging questions, observes and interrogates nature and elaborates his/her first hypothesis concerning things, events, the body, relationships, the existence of different points of view, languages, different symbolic systems and the media. "Children are active and competent subjects, capable of weaving significant relationships with peers and adults, of participating in the construction of knowledge that builds itself from the curious comparison of small learnings, abrupt connections and unforeseen events, encouraged by an open and accurate context, which captures and encourages this dynamic game of questions, doubts, theories, mistakes and learnings". In pre-schools children live their first experiences of citizenship, discussions and learnings. All of this takes place in spaces and times designed and organised for the children, to safeguard their well-being. Pre-schools develop an educational alliance with the families. Through diversity in lifestyles, culture, ethical and religious preferences, every family is the bearer of resources that must be enhanced and channelled into a solid network of communicative exchanges and shared responsibility.

Calendar and schedules

Pre-schools are open 5 days a week, from Monday to Friday, usually from September to June (please see school calendar). They are open from 09:00 to 16:00, with the possibility of early entrance (from 07:30) and extending their closing times (up til 18:00), in certain schools and in accordance with regulations.

Organisation

The enrolment in a pre-school takes place in periods defined annually by the Unione Terre d’Argine (usually in February) and requires the completion of an application form. The Unione Terre d’Argine area includes: 9 municipal pre-schools (2 of which are externally managed), 15 state pre-schools and 10 autonomous in agreement ones.
